Illinois data and breach laws your IT has to satisfy
Illinois has the strictest biometric law in the country. The Biometric Information Privacy Act (BIPA) requires written consent and a retention policy before collecting a fingerprint, face scan or similar, which includes the biometric time clocks many small businesses bought without reading the box; violations have produced large settlements. The Personal Information Protection Act requires breach notification to affected Illinois residents and, for larger breaches, to the Attorney General. Both are questions of policy and configuration as much as law, and we set up the systems and the records so an Illinois business is compliant by default.
