Working here
We hired a technician out of a Culver's. He is still here nine years later.
We would rather take somebody genuinely interested and teach them our way of doing things than hire someone who already knows a different way of doing them.
Before you pick an AI platform, ask the vendor one question in writing: is our data used to train your models, and for how long do you keep it?

A fast food kitchen. A movie theatre. A 911 dispatch centre. A large insurance agency. Those are not anecdotes about entry-level hires; those are people currently running significant parts of this company.
The pattern is deliberate. Our partners have said for years that they would almost rather have somebody fresh, who is interested and can be taught properly, than somebody arriving with a decade of habits from a firm that did things badly.
Nobody here is set up to fail
This is the part we are most willing to be held to. If somebody is handed a project and there is any doubt they can carry it, there is an engineer working alongside them, or documentation they have been walked through, or both.
You do not get handed something alone and hoped over. The only way to fail here is not to put the effort in, and that is a genuinely different proposition from most of this industry, where a junior gets thrown at a client site and everyone finds out together how it goes.
It is also, not incidentally, why clients do not get handed a green technician and a crossed set of fingers. The two things are the same policy seen from either side.
What that buys, over twenty-one years
People stay. Eight of the people here have been here long enough between them to add up to well over a century, and the technician who learned your setup is the one who still has it next year.
Our leadership has also been known to adapt to the person rather than expecting the reverse. That is unusual enough that people remark on it, and it is a large part of why so few leave.
Do I need a degree or certifications?
Neither is required. Several people here have them and several do not. What is not optional is being genuinely curious and willing to write things down.
What is the work actually like?
Small business technology, which means variety. You will not spend three years on one migration. You will see servers, networks, phones, security and the occasional building site.
Is there a career path?
People here have gone from support to account management, from intern to director. That is the normal route rather than the exception.
Are you hiring right now?
Ask. We would rather hear from somebody good at the wrong moment than miss them.
