AI advisory
Will our data be used to train the AI?
On a consumer account, often yes, and you frequently cannot tell. On a business or enterprise agreement, usually no, and the vendor commits to it in the contract rather than a help article.

The line that matters
It is not between one vendor and another. It is between a consumer account and a business one, at the same vendor. A free or personal tier generally reserves broader rights over what you type and keeps it longer, and the control that changes this is a setting somebody has to find. A business or enterprise agreement generally commits in the contract that your content is not used for training. Same logo, different deal.
Retention is the second question
Even where nothing is used for training, prompts are usually stored for some period for abuse monitoring and support. How long, and whether you can shorten it, is what a regulator, an auditor or an opposing attorney will eventually care about. Ask for the number, in writing.
How to check rather than trust
A vendor answers this in the marketing page, the trust centre, the terms of service, the privacy policy and the enterprise agreement, and those five do not always agree. Only one of them is enforceable. When we give a client an answer we say which document it came from and how confident we are in it.
What to do this week
Tell your staff, in one sentence, that client information does not go into a personal AI account. That sentence prevents more exposure than any product you could buy, and it costs nothing.
Where we did this
Consumer AI tools send whatever you paste out of the building. Enterprise editions keep it in your tenant. The policy has to say which is which.
An AI policy in two pages TechnologyCopilot in a small office earns its keep on meeting notes and finding documents. It is not for numbers that have to be right.
What Copilot is good forPeople also ask
Which AI tools are our employees using right now?
Almost certainly more than leadership thinks. Between a staff survey, what is switched on by default in your tenant, and what your industry software has quietly added, we can establish a real starting point instead of an assumed clean one.
The full answerWhy are our technology costs going up if we are not using AI?
Because the security floor rose permanently, AI data centre demand is pushing up hardware, cloud and software pricing across the industry, and compliance now carries real documentation overhead. None of those require you to use AI.
The full answerWhat is AI advisory, and what do we actually get?
An assessment of where AI fits your business, which platforms are safe for your data, a written policy, training, and software when you need it. It runs as a program with a named advisor, not a one-off meeting, and a login to our advisory library comes with it.
