How to choose an IT company in Walworth County
Local, regional or national? What matters for a business around Lake Geneva, Elkhorn, Delavan and Burlington, and what to ask.
By Eric Grimes, Partner
Businesses in Walworth County have three kinds of IT company to choose from: a local firm, a regional provider from Milwaukee or the Chicago suburbs, or a national company with a call centre. Each is right for someone.
Distance. When something needs hands, distance is the difference between a visit before lunch and a shipping label. If your business has servers, network gear, printers and people in a building, an hour's drive is the practical limit. If you run entirely in the cloud, it matters less.Who responds. Log a test request before you sign, and time it. A technician, a dispatcher or silence tells you most of what you need to know.Proof. Ask for a client in your industry who has been with them more than five years. Ask how they measure satisfaction and whether they will show you the number.Process. Ask to see the onboarding sequence written down. Ask when they last tested a restore for a client.Fit. A company that serves hospitals and school districts may not be built for a twenty-person insurance agency, and the reverse. Ask who their typical client is.We are the local option: Pell Lake, ten minutes from Lake Geneva, since 2005. We are not right for everyone, and we will say so on the first call.
