Does Microsoft 365 back itself up?
Not in the way most people assume. Deleted items eventually disappear and a compromised account can destroy data. A separate backup of email and files is standard.

Windows 10 stopped getting security fixes in October 2025. Unsupported machines are a no on every insurance and audit form.

Cheri, small businessMore from the survey wallWhat Microsoft actually promises
Microsoft keeps the service running and keeps your data safe from their hardware failing. That is availability. It is not a backup in the sense of being able to get back a mailbox as it was three months ago. Deleted email and files sit in a recycle bin for a limited period and then they are gone. Microsoft's own agreement says so.
How data gets lost
An employee deletes a folder and nobody notices for two months. A departing user's account is removed and their mailbox goes with it. A phished account is used to delete or encrypt files in a shared library. A sync error on a laptop wipes a folder and OneDrive faithfully syncs the wipe. None of those are Microsoft's fault, and none are recoverable from Microsoft after the retention window.
What a real backup does
A separate service copies email, OneDrive, SharePoint and Teams data on a schedule to storage that is not in your tenant, and keeps versions for years. Restoring a mailbox, a folder or a single file from a specific date is a ticket, not a crisis.
Part of the plan
Every Midwest IT client on Microsoft 365 has this backup, and it is tested like every other one. If you are with another provider, ask them where your Microsoft 365 backup goes and when it was last restored.
Where we did this
A backup that has never been restored is a hope, not a plan. Ask for the date of the last tested restore.
What to actually test Did you knowRecovery time is a number. If nobody can say how long it takes to be back to work after the server dies, nobody has planned it.

How warm is too warm for our server room?
Equipment is designed for roughly 18 to 27 degrees Celsius, 64 to 81 Fahrenheit, measured at the front where it draws air in. The number that matters is not the one on a Tuesday afternoon; it is the one at 2am on a Sunday.
The full answerWhere should our server actually live?
In a space with airflow, stable power, no water above it and a door that locks. Heat is the most common environmental killer of business equipment, and the room that is fine in March is a different room in July.
The full answerWhat is a server room reorganization, and is it worth paying for?
It is making the room possible to reason about: inventory, cable management, labelling at both ends, documentation, power and airflow. It turns a two-hour outage into a twenty-minute one, and it is far cheaper scheduled than done in an emergency.
